Six Sigma and GE: A Story of Successful Implementation #what #is #the #main #goal #of

Leadership

General Electric’s experience in the implementation of Six Sigma shows that the best of training and mentoring efforts would crumble without effective leadership.

Jack Welch, GE’s CEO supported the Six Sigma initiative not just with the necessary financial resources, but also through securing vital commitment from both the senior executives and the workforce. Welch linked promotion and bonus to quality improvement. Forty percent of each top management bonus depended on the successful implementation of Six Sigma goals and a Green Belt became the minimum requirement for the promotion of any employee.

Jack Welch and other top management, most notably Dave Cote, President, and CEO of GE Appliances followed a hands-on approach to Six Sigma and led from the front through the following methods:

  • Spending time in Six Sigma Training sessions and personally answering questions for employees undergoing training
  • Surprised visits to Six Sigma review sessions
  • Work-floor visits to make first hand observations on the extent of Six Sigma implementation at the workplace
  • Weekly summary reports and monthly reviews with the Master Black Belt team.

Focused Implementation

One major reason for the success story of Six Sigma and GE is the focused approach toward implementation.

GE’s three time-tested implementation approaches are “Show Me the Money,” “Everybody Plays,” and “Specific Techniques.”

  • Show Me the Money – GE approaches Six Sigma with a focus on the bottom-line. The need to cut costs in a competitive price-sensitive marketplace made GE apply Six Sigma to remove workplace defects and improve productivity, besides improving product quality.
  • Everybody Plays – Much of GE’s product lines are comprised of many outsourced parts. GE understood the need for the supplier to participate in the Six Sigma initiative to make the product fully Six Sigma compliant and invested in bringing the suppliers to Six Sigma.
  • Specific Techniques – GE cultivated the art of ranking projects and aligning them to the business goals through Six Sigma tools such as the process map.

Conclusion

Application of Six Sigma at General Electric brought a marked culture change in the attitude of individual employees toward quality, translating into dramatically lower service-call rates, and improved product reliability. The Six Sigma effort at GE contributed $700 million in corporate benefits in 1997, just two years into the program.

From a small beginning to improving product quality by reducing defects at the workplace, the scope of Six Sigma at GE has expanded over the years, and today Six Sigma’s customer focused, data driven philosophy defines how GE works.

I am a current student of the on-line LPN program. Although I cannot speak for the daytime program, I would advise you to stay well away from the on-line program. The course work is very poorly planned, it is almost impossible to get any sort of assistance from the instructor (she teaches this course, is a full-time nurse practitioner, is in med school, and also recently adopted a baby), and a good deal of the administration has no idea what the heck is going on.
This has been one of the worst educational experiences I have ever had. (Most of my classmates agree.)
Again, I am speaking specifically of the on-line program. I have heard mixed reviews on the daytime course. If you do go with PTEC, try to register at the St Pete campus. They seem to keep it together a bit more than the Clearwater campus.
Personally, I would rather have paid 4 times the cost and have gone to a better school.

that is very discouraging to me. especially when i’ve completed my entire aa degree online via spc, with the exception of a few classes that need to be taken on campus. i was so looking forward to being accepted to the august class, now i’m doubting i’ve made the right decision. i turned down galen after being accepted. moreso because of the expense to attend.

what specifically do you not like about the online part of the course? i know from the classes i’ve taken, that there is a ton more work to be had for the online students, as opposed to those who attend on campus, but that is to be expected when taking classes online. (at least from my experience)

could you please elaborate a bit more?

thanks in advance.

Wow this is discouraging. I was applying for that program as well. How is the clinical portion of the class going?

reinvent. i heard there were less than 40 applications turned in for the program starting in august. that is somewhat encouraging news, considering the amount at the orientation here’s hoping we both get into the program

and for the record: i think you get what you give to an online course. there is a lot of self-discipline needed to succeed in any course, but more so in an online course. don’t let anyone discourage you — if you give 100%, you will reap the benefits in the long run.

I agree. I’ve taken online classes for the last few semesters so I’m pretty used to it by now. Not to mention that it was the first online class PTEC has tried so that is probably why it was poorly planned. The second time around they should have learned from what was good and what wasn’t and improve.

What amount of points did you have? I had 6 plus the the 8 points for the READI. Wow, I can’t believe there was less than 40 because there was a LOT of people at that meeting. Hopefully it works out for us then :spin:

Again, I am speaking specifically of the on-line program. I have heard mixed reviews on the daytime course. If you do go with PTEC, try to register at the St Pete campus. They seem to keep it together a bit more than the Clearwater campus.
Personally, I would rather have paid 4 times the cost and have gone to a better school.

Wow this is discouraging. I was applying for that program as well. How is the clinical portion of the class going?

well, i’m not sure — and i’m SHOCKED that you didn’t get in either! i was told that a lot of the ones accepted, had high TEAS scores, but their points were 15 and up. they were previous applicants – so there’s 1 extra point, some millitary, so there’s another extra point – and i’ll assume male as well. it just seems impossible to me to even compete to get into these programs. i don’t want to spend the money, but maybe a private school is the only way to really get in. i turned down galen (May start date) because i wanted to get into this program — to save money for one reason, but really because i couldn’t see spending all that money on a private school to get the same outcome in the end. seems to me that those private schools are only out to make money — i mean, how can EVERYONE get into them, but few get into these?

they wanted me to apply to the october day class, but it’s in st. pete and unless i could find an evening hour job, i couldn’t do that. i suppose i could just wait it out and see what happens in january, but i’ve been WAITING for so long now, i’m starting to wonder if it is worth it.

i’ve also heard that local hospitals are no longer hiring LPNs, so that leaves long term care as the only place for employment. wouldn’t mind that, but the pay isn’t there either. i really wanted to get in the pTEC program to bridge to the SPC RN program. i’m really n ot sure what i am going to do. how about you?

Are you serious? I only scored a 85.3 on my TEAS and received an email saying I was accepted as the first alternate if anyone should decide to drop from the original roster. But I also had some points from having my A.A. degree and working in the medical field. It really sucks because considering it’s an online program, I really doubt anyone would decide to not do the class unless they find out they got into a R.N. program as well.

So, what are you gonna do now? Are you gonna wait to reapply for the next class in January or try something else? I’m still not sure.

Property Damage Liability Insurance: What It Covers How Much to Buy

Property damage liability coverage helps pay for damage to someone else’s car or other property due to an accident you caused, up to the policy’s limits. It will also cover damage you may cause to structures and stationary objects, including houses, stores, offices, trees, fences, guardrails, lamp posts, telephone poles, and more.

Property damage liability insurance does not cover damage to your own car. To repair that damage, you will need the physical damage coverage of your collision and comprehensive policies.

Property damage coverage is one of two types of liability auto insurance. The other, bodily injury liability insurance. covers injuries to the other driver and any passengers. Some minimum amount of both types of liability car insurance is typically required by states.

We’ll discuss exactly how property damage liability insurance works, what it costs, and how much you need below.

How It Works

Liability insurance packages come in two varieties: combined single limit policies and split limit policies. In a combined single limit policy, your policy will offer a certain amount of coverage, and you can decide how to divide that coverage between bodily injury and property damage.

When it comes to split limit policies, however, your insurance company will decide how much it will pay out for each type of liability coverage. You will often see such policy packages described using a numeric shorthand like this:

25,000/50,000/20,000 or 25/50/20

While the first two numbers apply to bodily injury coverage, we’ll focus on the last, which applies to property damage coverage. In this example, this policy would pay up to $20,000 to repair damage to others’ property in an accident you caused. Let’s look at two scenarios.

Scenario 1: Minor damage. Let’s say you swerved to avoid a squirrel, hop the curb, and hit a neighbor’s fence, causing $5,000 in damage. Your policy would completely cover the cost to repair or replace the fence.

Scenario 2: Major damage. Let’s say you are driving on the highway when you lose control of your car and hit two vehicles, causing $5,000 damage to one car and totaling another car worth $20,000. Your policy would pay up to $20,000, but you would be responsible for the remaining $5,000 in damage.

How Much Is Required?

Most states require drivers to carry a minimum amount of bodily injury and property damage liability insurance. Your state’s minimum property damage liability coverage amount is provided in the map and table below.

Minimum coverage requirements last updated November 2014

Note that some states give you the option to forgo car insurance if you have enough assets to “self insure.” In these states, you may have to deposit significant funds that could be used if you caused an accident, or post a bond. If you—like the vast majority of drivers—opt not to “self insure,” then you are required to meet at least the minimums above.

How Much Does It Cost?

When purchasing property damage liability insurance, consider how much it would cost to purchase more coverage than required by your state. You can use the WalletHub Car Insurance Calculator to compare quotes for different levels of property damage liability coverage.

The table below provides an example of the average additional cost drivers in Los Angeles may incur annually if they increase their property damage liability limits above a baseline of $10,000.

Added annual cost for additional coverage

Property Damage Coverage Limits

From $10K to $25K

Note: Average calculated from quotes by multiple insurance providers for a 37-year old female with excellent credit in zip code 90001 driving a 2008 Honda Accord.
*Monthly cost also includes $50,000/$100,000 bodily injury liability insurance and collision and comprehensive insurance with $500 deductibles.

How Much Coverage Should I Buy?

Most state requirements are relatively low, and property damage costs can easily exceed those limits. While the Insurance Research Council found that the average property damage liability claim was just over $3,000 in 2012, you could easily exceed the minimum required coverage if you damage or total a new, expensive car in an accident. The average new car costs over $30,000 today, according to TrueCar.com. Keep in mind that if the damages exceed your limit that the other party may sue you for the difference, putting your savings and assets at risk. We recommend you buy maximum property damage coverage you can afford.

    Mutual Fund

    BREAKING DOWN ‘Mutual Fund’

One of the main advantages of mutual funds is they give small investors access to professionally managed, diversified portfolios of equities, bonds and other securities. Each shareholder, therefore, participates proportionally in the gain or loss of the fund. Mutual funds invest in a wide amount of securities, and performance is usually tracked as the change in the total market cap of the fund, derived by aggregating performance of the underlying investments.

Mutual fund units, or shares, can typically be purchased or redeemed as needed at the fund’s current net asset value (NAV) per share, which is sometimes expressed as NAVPS. A fund’s NAV is derived by dividing the total value of the securities in the portfolio by the total amount of shares outstanding.

    Fees Associated With Mutual Funds

When an investor purchases shares in a mutual fund, he is usually assessed a fee known as an expense ratio. A fund’s expense ratio is the summation of its advisory fee or management fee and its administrative costs. Additionally, these fees can be assessed on the front-end or back-end, known as the load of a mutual fund. When a mutual fund has a front-end load, fees are assessed at the time of the initial purchase. For a back-end load, mutual fund fees are assessed when an investor sells his shares.

Sometimes, however, an investment company offers a no-load mutual fund, which is a fund sold without a commission or sales charge. These funds are distributed directly by an investment company rather than through a secondary party. An Example of Mutual Fund Allocation and Performance

If an investor seeks to gain diversified exposure to the Canadian equity market, he can invest in the S P/TSX Composite Index, which is a mutual fund that covers 95% of the Canadian equity market. The index is designed to provide investors with a broad benchmark index that has the liquidity characteristics of a narrower index. The S P/TSX Composite Index is comprised largely of the financials, energy and materials sectors of the Canadian stock market, with sector allocations of 35.54%, 20.15% and 14.16%, respectively. Performance of the fund is tracked as the percentage change to its overall adjusted market cap.

    Sandy Berenbaum, LCSW, BCD, Lyme-Literate Psychotherapist #what #can #i #do #with #an #msw

Lyme disease can be a debilitating illness having a profound effect on interpersonal relationships and a patient s ability to function at home, in school, and in the workplace. Making matters worse, most chronic Lyme patients suffer from delayed or inaccurate diagnoses prior to finding a doctor who will treat their illness effectively. Some patients have spent months or even years trying different treatments that don’t work, since their diagnosis was, in fact, wrong. Patients often feel isolated and trapped when those around them do not understand the complexity of their illness and what they are experiencing.

As a Lyme-literate psychotherapist, I become an integral part of your treatment team as you progress toward recovery. I provide individual psychotherapy or family therapy including support, direction, and strategies for coping and healing. My ability to do that comes from my having a comprehensive understanding of tick-borne diseases and their impact on patients, who have complex medical issues, and are living in a world where their illness is often denied and validation is rare.

As a Lyme-literate psychotherapist, I have had extensive training which enables me to understand Lyme and other tick-borne diseases, their impact on the body, brain, and life of a patient. Through the therapeutic process, you can expect to gain:

    • An understanding of the nature of your illness and effective strategies to deal with it.
    • An ability to cope with symptom flares and side effects of medications, while functioning at the highest possible level.
    • An ability to advocate, if necessary, on behalf of a child with Lyme disease in their school and community.
    • Enhanced communications and problem-solving skills both within and outside of your family.
    • An ability to establish boundaries around those who lack an understanding of your illness.
