I have been going here for a little over 2 years now, and I trust them, they are also growing and improving and that is a good sign. Gloria is a gem at the front desk

Jan 19, 2017 Jackie C.

I would just like to say thank you to Pat and his employees for the excellent service he gave to my Son regarding his oil change. Something was wrong with his car after the oil change and here it was the oil filter they fixed the problem and gave my Son a free oil change to fix the problem. Great Job. Thank you again for your service it is greatly appreciated since I live in Ohio and my Son is in Florida it mean a lot that there are still companies out there that take care of their customers.

Jul 15, 2016 Paul C.

These guys are great especially Doug. Called me with a problem about fixing my window and he found a way to fix it. The best.

Jul 04, 2016 christian a.

those guys know what they doing, my service was excellent,im really happy.

May 18, 2016 Les S.

Wonderful, even checked my tire pressure! Outgoing, friendly team!

May 03, 2016 Isac R.

Very positive experience. Everything was handled very professionally. I have been taking my vehicles there since 2011 when I moved to Naples and with a brand new car purchase will continue to use this location. I am not one to recommend places and services to others but will certainly speak positively to others about my experiences.

Sep 11, 2015 Janice T.

I came in for an oil change, Marcos was the manager, he was polite, courteous, and very helpful. This is such a refreshing change from the normal, ” I don’t really care” attitude, take good care of him, good employees are very hard to find.

Feb 02, 2015 Miguel R.

I am giving a great compliment to Atiba for his customer service at this location. Atiba always tried to do the best for his customers. even that must of the time he is there by himself. Tuffy as a Company should reward this guy for his work ethics and great service.

Oct 24, 2014 Judy B.

I highly recommend this Tuffy! They were very flexible and accommodating. It took a couple of appointments and a lot of determination to find the issue. But they did! Thank you, Perry and Robert!

Jul 28, 2014 Pamela E.

They were very friendly and helpful. I had an oil change and tire rotation. They found things wrong, but did not pressure me to allow them to fix them. They also told me what to watch for. For example; leaky hoses and such. I would recommend them for an oil change. Also the waiting room is nice, with free coffee, and it was very clean.

May 31, 2014 Chansee L.

I have never been to have my car serviced at a better place. The service was fast, the help were wonderful and price very reasonable. I very highly recommend them!

Mar 20, 2014 Mike B.

Nobody likes to pay for car repairs. This was the best expierence I have ever had. I had the pleasure of working with Geff he is extreamly knowlegeable of cars and provided above and beyond customer service. Geff made my expierience so wonderful I will never go anywhere else.

Oct 11, 2012 Karen H.

I have been using this Tuffy location since 2009, not long after it opened on Vanderbilt Beach Road. My 2003 Mustang will be turning over 100,000 miles this week and it runs like a new car. I cannot say enough to praise the knowledge and professionalism of this staff. Tuffy knows my car probably better than I do and they are helping me to take the very best care possible of my Mustang. THANK YOU.

Mar 21, 2012 Tom J.

I needed a front end alignment for my car. The technican showed me there was a problem with the tires and recommmended replacing them. The manager, offered up several choices and recommended the best tires for the money, and it was far from the most expensive. He was very professional as is his crew. The tires arrived the next day as promised and when I showed up I got right in. I’d recommend this Tuffy Auto Center to everyone who needs quality work done at a fair price. And, if you’re a car guy or gal, the crew here will talk with you about cars as long as you want! It was an enjoyable experience.

Oct 17, 2011 Chad L.

I discovered this Tuffy location a little over a year ago and have had friendly service and quality work every time. They have gone above and beyond for my car time and time again. I would recommend them to anyone.

Welcome to Tuffy Naples (Vanderbilt Beach Rd.)

New to Maryland Titling and Registering Your Vehicle Information #mva, #motor #vehicle #administration, #dmv, #maryland

As a new resident of Maryland you must register your vehicle within 60 days of moving to Maryland. If you delay beyond 60 days, you will not be eligible for a tax credit for any titling tax paid in another state, and you may be subject to a citation for an out of state registration.

Please Note: If an owner of a vehicle originally titled in Maryland obtains a title for the vehicle in another state in the same name, and returns to Maryland, it may be registered by surrendering the foreign title and securing a Duplicate Maryland Title. There is a fee for a duplicate title.

Titling Your Vehicle

You can apply for a Maryland title, and registration, in person at any of the MVA’s full service branch offices. You also can mail the documents to the MVA’s Out-of-State Title Unit, 6601 Ritchie Highway, Glen Burnie, MD 21062, or go to an MVA licensed tag and title service where they will assist you in applying.

Typically, you will need to submit the following forms to obtain a title for your vehicle:

  • Proof of ownership – This is the vehicle’s existing title that identifies you as the owner. If there is a lien against your out-of-state title:
    • First, contact the MVA at the Customer Service Center at 1-410-768-7000.
    • If you do not have the title document or certificate, the MVA will provide you with a letter (form #VR-056) to send to your lien holder requesting the title(s) be sent to the MVA. Note: Please have the following information for the letter: Name of vehicle owner, MD address, phone number, VIN number, year, make of vehicle, lien holder’s name, lien holder’s address, lien holder’s fax number, state where currently registered/titled and lien account number.
    • Upon receipt of the title documents(s), the MVA will write or call you to inform you that we have received the title(s). We will inform you of the excise tax due and ask you to send your completed Application for Certificate of Title (form #VR-005), the MD Safety Inspection Certificate, and payment (check or money order made payable to the MVA) to the MVA. The check should include payment for the following:
      • Title fee
      • Fee to record the lien
      • Excise tax and tag fees
  • Application form – The Application for Certificate of Title (form #VR-005) can be used to apply for both the vehicle’s title and registration. Be sure to include your insurance information. Your policy must conform to Maryland’s minimum liability insurance requirements .
  • Maryland Safety Inspection Certificate – This Maryland State Police form certifies that your vehicle meets Maryland safety standards. It is valid for up to 90 days from the date issued.
    • Certificate of Inspection
A Safety Inspection is required for all used cars, trucks, tractors, trailers, motorcycles, special equipment, and class “B” for hire vehicles being titled and registered in Maryland. They must be inspected by a licensed Maryland inspection station, such as automobile dealers, service stations and specialized automobile service centers. A certificate of inspection issued by the inspection station within the previous 90 days of the vehicle titling must accompany the Application for Title. To avoid delay, compare the vehicle identification number (VIN) entered on the inspection certificate with the VIN on the vehicle plus the vehicle ownership documents to make certain they agree. Altered inspection certificates will not be accepted.

Under certain circumstances, additional information and/or forms may be required:

  • Proof of vehicle’s value – If the vehicle’s value cannot be identified by the MVA, you may need to submit a bill of sale. For leased vehicles, a lease agreement may also be acceptable.
  • Lease agreement and proof of monthly lease payments (leased vehicles only) – If you have paid or are paying excise tax to another state through your lease payments, the documents may be needed to determine the amount of excise tax credit you may receive.
  • Lien information – If you borrowed money to buy the vehicle, lien information may need to be recorded on the application. The MVA form entitled Security Interest Filing (form #VR-217) must be used if a second lien is placed against the title.
  • Lien release – If your title indicates that a lien exists, you must make arrangements with the lien holder to pay off the loan (lien) or the MVA will file the lien against your new title (i.e. transfer the lien).
  • Power of attorney – If someone other than you, the new owner, is signing the titling forms for you, this document is required.

Note that if you also intend to register the vehicle, additional forms are usually needed

Registration requirements vary greatly by the type and intended use of the vehicle. The requirements for most vehicles can be found in Registration – Common Vehicles.

Your title will be mailed to you regardless of how you apply. If you also register the vehicle, your registration card, license plates and expiration stickers can be provided immediately when you apply in person to the MVA; otherwise, these items also will be mailed to you.

Maryland Excise Titling Tax

If the vehicle has been recently purchased, the 6% excise tax is based on the greater of the total purchase price verified by a notarized MVA Bill of Sale (form VR-181). signed by both the buyer(s) and the seller(s) in which the actual price paid for the vehicle is stated or $640. In other cases, the total purchase price or the valuation shown in a national publication of used car values adopted for use by the Administration will be used to establish the tax. There is an addition or subtraction for high or low mileage. On vehicles seven years old and older, the tax is based on the greater of the purchase price or the minimum book value of $640.

Note: As a new resident, to comply with Maryland law and take advantage of a lower excise tax, you must title and register your vehicle within 60 days of declaring residency in Maryland.

For vehicles less than 7 years old (Non-Residents):

  • Vehicle(s) titled in a state with a tax rate equal to or higher than Maryland’s 6% tax rate will cost $100.
  • If the vehicle is registered in a state that imposes no tax, the tax will be assessed at 6% of the value of the vehicle.
  • Vehicles from a state with a lower tax rate than Maryland’s 6% will be taxed at the rate of the difference between the two states. Example: MD 6%, VA 4%, the difference is a 2% tax rate. Minimum tax – $100. When the value of the vehicle is less than $2,000, the 6% rate will apply. Click here for the State Tax Rate Chart .

For a vehicle over 7 years old:

  • Tax is based on the greater of the purchase price or the minimum of $640. The MVA may require you to submit additional documentation to substantiate the purchase price.

For a leased vehicle:

  • Lease agreement and proof of monthly lease payments (leased vehicles only) – If you have paid or are paying excise tax to another state through your lease payments, documentation is needed to determine the amount of excise tax credit you may receive.

Driver Licensing Informationis also available for new Maryland residents.

Now into a second calendar year, the Toyota Rav4 EV has been on the market for over 7 months. Sales did slow through the winter months, but now they are picking up again.

The speed at which the Rav4 EV is selling becomes more obvious when reading some of the different posts from forum members on the troubles they had insuring their Rav4 EV.

Some owners reported having troubles mainly because the Rav4 EV wasn t in the insurance companies systems when the insurance agent went to search for the rate cards, the computer returned an error saying it didn t know that vehicle. Many insurance companies are now set up to insure brand new electric vehicles .

Some others said that insurance wasn t an issue, but titling the vehicle was the state s Department of Licensing wouldn t give temporary tags, so owners had to wait up to 3 weeks for Toyota finance to send the paperwork.

Back in September 2012, the first month the Rav4 EV was for sale, there were 61 vehicles sold. That number declined through January 2013, and is now on the rise. For March 2013, Toyota posted sales of 133 Toyota Rav4 EV sales!

Although that number is over double the number from the previous month, sales are still relatively slow. Toyota said it would limit production of the Rav4 EV to 2600 units over 3 years even spread over the 3 years that is 866 vehicles per year. In the first 7 months of sales, there have been 404 Rav4 EVs sold so 800 could be reached with 5 good months of sales.

Since the Toyota Rav4 EV is currently only for sale in California, some customers from out of state have purchased one and taken it back to their home state. The biggest issue with this is that the Rav4 EV is certified for licensing in California, so out of state buyers need to do an out of state emissions control inspection not that the electric Rav4 should have any issues passing it!

Toyota is taking the Rav4 EV on a tour of the Golden State. The tour is being called the Charge-to-Charge Tour, complete with a web series hosted by TreeHugger founder Graham Hill.

The Toyota Rav4 EV tour started in Richmond, across the bay from San Francisco, and will work its way south from there. The Rav4 EV will be exhibited at events along the way like the 40th Annual EAA Electric Vehicle Rally in Cupertino.

Toyota outlined its loan and lease options for the Rav4 electric vehicle. The EV has already started sales at some California dealerships, and will offer a 36-month lease optiong for $599 a month with a $3,499 downpayment. Toyota will offer 1.9 percent APR for those looking to buy the Rav4 EV. The Toyota Rav4 EV is priced at $49,800 and Toyota will build 2600 of them through 2014.

Toyota has finally announced that the Rav4 EV has received its EPA ratings. The 2012 Rav4 EV is rated as having a 103 miles of range on a fully charged battery, making it the only non-Tesla car to be rated over 100 miles! The MPG equivalent rating is set at 74 on the highway and 78 in the city.

The $49,800 all electric compact utility vehicle will be available for 36 month lease at $599 per month with $3,499 down. In the week of September 24th, 2012 the Rav4 EV is coming to select California dealers in major metro markets. The Rav4 EV is eligible for $7,500 federal tax credit as well as a $2,500 rebate through the California Clean Vehicle Rebate Program.

Toyota is only expecting the sales volume of the 2012 Rav4 EV to reach around 2600 through 2014, but Toyota may always decide to build more if the interest is there.

In August, Bob Carter, gorup vice-president and general manager of Toyota Motor U.S. said that the 2012 Toyota Rav4 EV will be limited to the state of California. This raised much speculation that the new Rav4 EV is purely a compliance vehicle to satisfy the new California Zero-emission vehicle mandate s requirements.

Toyota further mentioned that they will meet [their] ZEV credits mandate with a combination of conventional hybrids, plug-in hybrids, battery-electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. The specific year-to-year combinations are flexible and will depend largely on market response and infrastructure development. As was the case with the first generation Rav4 EV, the market will ultimately decide.

Will it though? Many would claim that Toyota pulled the plug on the first generation Rav4 EV when there was still much demand for it

It s official. The Tesla engineered battery and powertrain will be built in Tesla s California facility, while the rest of the Rav4 Electric vehicle will be made at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, Inc plant in Woodstock Ontario.

The first generation of the new Rav4 EV was unveiled back in 2010, and it is slated to go on sale in late summer 2012.

Almost 2 years ago Toyota announced it would be re-introducing the Toyota Rav4 EV, and now as we are getting closer and closer to launch, Toyota is releasing more details.

The MSRP for the full equipped Toyota Rav4 electric vehicle is $49,800. Toyota is claiming the vehicle will be available before the end of 2012.

Toyota claims the Rav4 EV has a range of 100 miles, and that you will be able to charge it from empty in about 6 hours on a 240 volt 40 amp charger. The new Rav4 EV has led and halogen headlights and special emblems on the outside that Toyota says are environmental blue.

With the battery and powertrain in the new Rav4 EV being designed by Tesla, the new Rav4 EV appears to be simply a compliance EV built to satisfy new vehicle manufacturer regulations in California.

Rumors are the Rav4 EV will be lease only, but the official press release says the car will go on sale in late summer 2012 through select dealers in 4 California markets.

At %49,800, Toyota hopes to sell 2600 Rav4 electric vehicles in the next 3 years.

Replacing a Lost Title in South Dakota

Replacing a Lost Title in South Dakota

If you wish to sell your car or use it as collateral on a loan, you’ll need to produce your vehicle title. However, car titles can often get lost or damaged over the years. Luckily, the state of South Dakota makes it easy to acquire a new title if your title is lost, damaged or stolen.

Losing a title happens more than you might think. So much so, the South Dakota Motor Vehicles Division (MVD) has an efficient duplicate title retrieval process.

Ordering a Duplicate Title in SD

NOTE . When applying for a South Dakota duplicate title, you will need to provide your drivers license. Titles are only issued to the recorded owner or someone who is an authorized agent and can provide documentation of the power of attorney.

The process of applying for your duplicate title is simple. You’ll need to:

  • Complete an Application for a Duplicate Certificate of Title (Form MV-010). It must be signed before a notary public, and include the notary public’s seal, and the signatures of all owners of the vehicle.
  • Provide an odometer reading if your vehicle is 9 years old or less, and/or has a gross vehicle weight rating of 16,000 lbs. or less.
  • Include a lien release if there’s a lien, or have the lienholder sign your application.
    • If there is a lien on the vehicle, the duplicate title will be sent to the lienholder. See “Lien on Your Vehicle” below for more information.
  • Submit payment for the $10 duplicate title fee.
  • You can either deliver this inperson to your local South Dakota county treasurer’s office or mailto :

Division of Motor Vehicles
Duplicate Title Section
445 E. Capitol Ave.
Pierre, SD 57501

Your duplicate title will be delivered by mail.

Lien on Your Vehicle

If there is a lien on your vehicle, you will need to get the signature of the lienholder on the Application for a Duplicate Certificate of Title (Form MV-010).

If the lien is being released, attach the form that shows this. The lien will be cleared and a new title will be issued to the owner.

Updating the Name on Your Title

When you apply for a duplicate title in South Dakota, you’ll need to supply the current odometer reading of the car to update the mileage.

If you wish to update a title to show a name change. you will need to sign the Application for a Duplicate Certificate of Title (Form MV-010) using both your original and updated name. You can also supply a notarized affidavit stating you are the same person who originally signed the title under a different name.

When updating your name with your local SD MVD office. you will need to supply your drivers license with the updated name. You may also provide a notarized affidavit that documents your name change.

For more details about the name-change process, you can view our page about Changing Your Name.

How to Buy a Fleet Vehicle for Your Business

Nearly every vehicle manufacturer will give a discount to businesses that buy cars, vans or trucks in bulk. These so-called fleet sales are available through almost every dealership and offer new and used cars for hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars less than the manufacturer s suggested retail price. Preferred pricing, as it s known, is open in many cases to business owners who purchase or lease as few as five vehicles.

Specific policies vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but getting a fleet vehicle on the cheap usually starts with a phone call to the dealership offering the specific car a business owner wants. Be sure to ask for the name of the fleet vehicle manager first to avoid being routed to a regular salesperson.

The fleet vehicle manager can guide potential buyers through the process, helping determine if they re qualified to establish a fleet identification number that will give them access to better pricing on leased or purchased vehicles.

Some dealerships require proof that a business is a legitimate legal entity. Others are more concerned with the quantity of vehicles that will be purchased. General Motors requires businesses to buy or lease five or more new vehicles in a 12-month period. Toyota asks that a company operate or plan to operate 10 or more, but those 10 can be a mix of vehicles from different manufacturers. Honda s fleet sales have no quantity restrictions.

In many cases, fleet vehicles can be arranged with open-ended leases, prepaid maintenance, consolidated billing plans and other financially flexible perks.

Like regular consumers in the market for personal cars, fleet vehicle buyers should shop around; sales prices will vary from dealership to dealership based on available inventory. Always ask for a written bid. And call during weekday business hours. Fleet salesmen sell directly to businesses and tend to work 9 to 5.

Sign Your Approval for Section 179

FAQs – Section 179 Deduction Bonus Depreciation

What is the Section 179 Deduction?

Section 179 of the IRS Tax Code allows a business to deduct, for the current tax year, the full purchase price of financed or leased equipment and off-the-shelf software that qualifies for the deduction. The equipment purchased, financed or leased must be within the specified dollar limits of Section 179, and the equipment must be placed into service in the same tax year that the deduction is being taken (for example, the equipment must be put into service between January 1st and December 31st of the year the deduction is to be taken.)

Did the Stimulus Acts have an impact Section 179?

The Section 179 limits have risen and fallen over the years, with Congress often making businesses wait before raising it with the various stimulus acts over the years. That ended in late 2015, when the PATH Act raised Section 179 to $500,000, and made it permanent. It also reinstated the 50% Bonus Depreciation on new equipment purchases, and also included escalators for inflation in future years.

What’s the difference between Section 179 and Bonus Depreciation?

The most important difference is both new and used equipment qualify for Section 179 Deduction, while Bonus Depreciation covers new equipment only. Bonus Depreciation is useful to very large businesses spending more than whatever Section 179’s spending limit is for that year. Car Insurance After a DUI

Insurance companies will increase premiums after a drunk driving conviction by as much as two or three times. In most cases, this is simply price gouging as the statistical incidence of accidents caused by convicted first offenders is far below the level that would justify the increases. There are no laws regulating the premiums charged, however; they vary wildly from one company to another and certainly justify comparison shopping.
