Utah DUI Record Search

Utah is a state that has implied consent laws regarding driving under the influence (DUI) crimes. This means that when pulled over, it is assumed a driver will consent to a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) test. If they do not, they will still be charged with a DUI. The legal limit for BAC is .08 in Utah. If the drivers BAC is below .08, yet they still show signs of impairment, they will still be charged with a DUI. The legal BAC limit for drivers under the age of 21 is .02. There are increased penalties for drivers whose BAC is .16 or higher.

For a first time DUI offender in Utah, the law requires a 48 hour minimum jail sentence, or the completion of a 48 hour work service program. Home confinement is also a possibility. There is a $700 minimum fine, along with a 120 day license suspension. The Utah courts may also require other penalties, such as additional home confinement that monitors the offender through electronic devices. Other possibilities are alcohol and drug abuse assessment, and if deemed necessary, the subsequent treatment programs. The completion of a substance abuse education program may also be ordered by the court.

Neurology Clinic – Memory

Our renowned physicians deliver the best in compassionate patient care, offering extensive experience to people with memory disorders.

All patients receive thorough diagnostic evaluations to identify and classify memory problems or disorders. The most advanced analytic tests, including neuropsychological testing, DNA and plasma evaluations, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and positron emission tomography (PET) scans provide a roadmap for treatment.

Our Alzheimer’s Disease Center (ADC) is one of 32 institutions funded by the National Institutes of Health s National Institute on Aging. More than 150 new patients a year are evaluated at the ADC, and our database includes information on more than 2,500 patients treated since 1988.

What We Treat

Memory disorders treated at the clinic include:

  • Alzheimer s disease
  • Mild cognitive impairment
  • Frontotemporal dementia
  • Lewy body disease
  • Progressive supranuclear palsy
  • Memory disorders associated with Parkinson s disease, multiple sclerosis, and Huntington s disease

Our Research

Our clinic enrolls a large number of patients in cognitive-related observational and clinical trials underway at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Observational Studies

Normal Control

We enroll and conduct yearly evaluations of people who do not have any significant symptoms of cognitive impairment. These studies allow us to learn about the changes that occur normally in aging, and to make important comparisons of normal versus abnormal aging brain function.

Mild Cognitive Impairment

We enroll patients who have mild cognitive impairment, meaning that the person has consistent problems with memory or another area of cognition but does not have noticeable impairment in daily functioning.

Dementia

Participants with dementia are enrolled to help us answer a number of important research questions regarding early symptoms, risk factors, genetics, imaging, treatment, dietary, and environmental factors possibly related to mild Alzheimer s disease, frontotemporal dementia, etc.

Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are carefully controlled studies of new and emerging diagnostics and treatments. These trials bring state-of-the art knowledge to patient diagnosis and care. Some studies focus on treatment of memory and thinking problems, some on behavioral and mood disturbance, and others on prevention.

We have studies investigating new imaging techniques and medications for the treatment of all stages of dementia. These studies may involve specific vitamin therapy, the use of already approved medications for a new use, the use of investigational combinations of medications, as well as newly developed medications that are not yet FDA-approved or available to the public.

Top Utah Nursing Schools, Colleges Degree Programs

The nursing shortage in Utah seemed non-existent during the economic crisis. Indeed, at some point, there was a surplus of nurses in the state. However, now that the crisis is over, many of those who have put off retirement are starting to leave and many others are cutting their hours. As a result, the shortage is now starting to be felt after all.

In 2011, some 19,000 registered nurses worked in the state, of which 1,445 were advanced practice nurses. This equated to 16.38 nurses for every 1,000 residents of Utah. About 37% of the workforce were aged between 45 and 59 and the mean annual salary was $61,540, which is below the state average. Fortunately, the cost of living is lower compared to the national average. Between 2005 and 2009, 7,479 new nurses were registered. More students are graduating now, at a rate of 3,121. However, there are just nine schools accredited with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, who had to turn away 401 qualified applicants. One particular problem is that 15% of all nurses in the state work two jobs, which is something that they are likely to give up on soon. It is expected that by next year, there will be a shortage of 4,633 nurses. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. the shortage will be 6,925 by 2020.

Utah is working particularly hard on increasing the level of education of its nursing workforce. They are focusing on both bachelor s and doctorate degrees. Special programs are being developed to address this. Furthermore, more nurses will be needed in community care in particular, for which nurse residency programs will be developed. Additionally, the state is making it possible for nurses to be committed to life-long learning. At present, only 28% study towards a bachelor s degree, with the majority of others choosing associate s degrees instead. Hence, additional RN to BSN programs are being made available and many of those are available online.

The worry for some experts, however, is that the state may become complacent. As there is no current shortage, particularly compared to other states, it would be all too easy to forget that a crisis is looming. Utah has well-above average birth rates and the existing population is aging, which includes the nursing workforce. Unless the position is made more attractive through incentives and other options, a real nursing shortage crisis will emerge and Utah may not have systems in place to address this.
