Free Resume Templates and Resume Builders

Free resume templates

Free resume templates

A resume template provides you with a layout for your resume. That way, you don t have to design the document from scratch. As anyone who has ever stared at the blinking cursor in a blank document knows, starting to create a resume is intimidating. A template can help kick off the process, by laying out certain set sections (name and contact information, for instance) for you to fill out.

Why Use a Resume Template

Designing a professional document is a time-consuming task.

Not only does a template save time, but it always helps you know what sections to include. It s always useful to review resume templates and samples when you are writing your resume, so you can get an idea of what a resume should (and could) look like.

Tips for Using a Resume Template

The best way to use a resume template or sample resume is as starting point. But don t think of it as a fixed-in-stone design. Just because the template uses Times New Roman font does not mean that you re required to stick with that font.

And, if the resume template includes an objectives section, but you d prefer to have a summary section, you can certainly adjust. In fact, personalizing a resume template is advantageous — after all, nearly any resume template that you can find is probably available to every other job applicant out there as well. That means that hiring managers have likely seen a lot of similar looking resumes.

When you personalize, be sure to play within the boundaries of what s appropriate for a resume. Reviewing several sample options and templates will help you know what s customary — and what s not. For instance, while you can change the font, do make sure to stick with a professional, resume-appropriate font choice.

After reviewing a few options, choose the template which appeals to you most. (Part of this template selection process may involve deciding what type of resume you d like to have: functional, targeted, chronological, or some hybrid option.)

Once you ve selected a template, add your information. Then, tweak and edit the document to personalize your resume, so it highlights your skills and abilities.

Free Resume Templates

Review these resume templates, looking for the option that best suits your career level and background. Remember, this template will just serve as the starting point for creating your own resume. Feel free to tweak and adjust templates as necessary or desired so you can best highlight your own experience.

Resume Samples

As well as looking at resume templates, it may be helpful to look at sample resumes. Examining how other people describe their experience and adapt templates can be very helpful. This is particularly true if you look at samples which are either at your same career level, or from people within your field.

Use sample resumes only for inspiration — do not copy information or phrases. It s important to be honest on your resume, and portray your experience accurately.

Here are additional resume samples and examples. There are sample resumes that will fit just about any job-related circumstance.

It s not only sample resumes that are helpful to review. Browse sample cover letters, CVs, and job letter samples.

Using a template can reduce the amount of time you have to spend formatting, allowing you to focus on ensuring that the content of your resume shines.

Read below for tips on how to access and use free templates through Microsoft Word.

Word has templates for resumes, CVs, cover letters, and other job application materials.

Free Microsoft Resume Templates

Free Microsoft resume templates are available as a download for Microsoft Word users to use to create a resume, CV, or cover letter.

The product will be rolling out to Microsoft Office insiders first, then to other Word users. Here s information on availability and how Resume Assistant works.

Tips for Using a Resume Template

Once you have downloaded or opened a resume template file, type over the text in the file to create your own, personalized resume. Read below for tips on how to successfully use a template to create a personalized resume:

Keep it simple. When picking out a template to use, choose a simple template that s easy to edit and format. Fancy formatting and fonts may get lost when you upload or email your resume document. A basic resume is also easier to read.

Keep it concise. Your resume doesn t need to include everything you ever did. If you have a lengthy employment history, you don t need to include it all.

Employers typically don t expect to see more than 10-15 years of work experience on a resume. Try to keep the resume no longer than one page, especially if you are applying for an entry-level job.. However, more experienced candidates might make a longer resume.

Make the document unique to you and the job. Be sure to change all of the information in the template so that the finished document is specific to you and your skills. It should include your personal information, your work history, and a description of your skills and qualifications. Also make sure to tailor the document to the job you are applying for. For example, if you are applying to be a teacher, include any work or volunteer experiences that involved teaching others or leading a group of people. Include keywords from the job application in your document.

Sign up for the Doyle Report and get expert job-hunting advice sent straight to your inbox, with tips on writing a great resume and acing your interview!

Give it a unique file name. Save your resume with your name as the file name. This way, employers will know whom it belongs to. For example, save it as firstname.lastname.doc or lastnameresume.doc.

Check the details. When you re typing or copying and pasting over the content of a template, be sure that you have replaced all the information in it with your own contact information, experience, and education. Double check to make sure that everything on the final version of the resume is about you.

Proofread. Along with checking the details, take the time to carefully proofread your resume before you click upload or send. It s a reflection of your credentials, so it s important for it to be perfect.

Microsoft cover letter templates are available as a free download for Microsoft Word users, or available within your Word program, to use to create cover letters. Microsoft cover letter template options include general, job-specific, and career-specific cover letter samples.

Microsoft letter templates are available as a free download for Microsoft Word users or are available within your Word program, to use to create a variety of letters. There are letter templates for cover letters, resignation letters, reference letters, thank you letters, interview letters, and a variety of business letters.

    Not much actually.

There are lots of resume templates but they don’t look good, I ended up buying resume templates from http://www.trendyresumes.com and http://www.cvfolio.com that I was very pleased with.

Yes, software is helpful but if you’re looking for great resume templates, look somewhere else.

Tedious to use. May not cooperate with other software.

    1.Description sounds great.

    2.Lots of features.

    3.Fairly easy to uninstall.

    1. Too many features you will not need or use for resume creation.

    2. This program won’t get out of the way so you can smoothly use the templates.

    3. There is not a template preview feature so you have to manually load each template separately to see if you like it.

The point to downloading this software is to have a large database of resume templates on hand to access as you need them. This program does not allow neither smooth or easy access to templates and almost seems to be interfering with my MS Word’s ability to open the templates for editing. My advice-look elsewhere for more user friendly resume template software.

Easy: just type over the sample test with what you really want it to say. All formatting is already included.

Nothing. except that maybe a few other samples with different looks would make this even better.

It’s way easier to create a resume this way than to start from scratch, which would require having to master complex and arcane Microsoft Word formatting commands.

Your CV-Resume outlines your career objective and/or highlights of your career to date, education, major skills and accomplishments, work experience and references, amongst other things. With so much competition on the job market today, the information you chose to include in your CV Resume is really important. Employers are interested in the ‘all rounder’, so while your academic and/or professional experiences are the most important components, it also helps to give them an insight into the type of person you are outside of the office, through the hobbies and interests that you have.

The purpose of your CV Resume is to convince a potential employer that you’re an outstanding candidate who will make positive contributions to the company. The first impression they have about you is going to be based on what they read. That’s why it’s important to sell yourself as best as you can. This way you can improve your chances of getting that all important interviews for the graduate job you are after, the dream job you’ve been chasing, or the big career move you’re planning on making.

    What you need to know

As you read this CV-Resume website, keep in mind that if you talk to 10 different people, you’ll get 10 different versions of what to put on your CV-Resume. Different resume formats vary, as do personalities. Your primary goal is to communicate enough information about yourself to prompt an interview. Just like you wouldn’t turn up to a job interview in tattered jeans, a dirty sweat shirt and with unkempt hair, your CV Resume should also be presented in a clear, neat and tidy manner. Trying to send out the right first impression when all you have is pen and paper at your defence can be tough, so it’s important that you try to sell yourself as best as you can.

Imagine that the selection process is a fair full of stands with products; the product that you are going to promote is yourself, the explanatory brochure is your CV-Resume, the stand of your company is the presentation or resume cover letter (your own) and the competitors are the other candidates who are also using marketing strategies to sell themselves. With so much competition out there, what can you do to make sure that people are interested in reading about your product?

Having a good reference can make or break an interview offer, so how you conduct yourself in the workplace is always important.
