Newt Gingrich: Schumer s plan to Keep Obama appointees in power #obama #colleges

Newt Gingrich Schumer s plan to Keep Obama appointees in power

Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and the Democrats continue to snub President Trump by slowing down Senate confirmation of his Cabinet appointments. Their underlying goal is to allow remaining Obama-appointed bureaucrats to do as much damage to the Trump administration as they can before leaving.

CNN reported last week that “Trump is noticeably behind the last three presidents when it comes to securing the confirmation of his Cabinet and other top appointments that require Senate approval.”

The Senate confirmed Governor Rick Perry on Thursday to lead the U.S. Department of Energy, leaving only former Governor Sonny Perdue and Alexander Acosta awaiting confirmation to lead the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Labor respectively.

But Schumer is only stalling top cabinet picks to further block the appointments of nearly 2,000 other political vacancies within the administration. CNN said as of February 23, Trump had 1,987 vacancies throughout his administration.

Many of these positions are empty. Attorney General Jeff Sessions said yesterday that much has happened at the Department of Justice in the three weeks he’s been in office, and he wished more of his staff had been confirmed by now. To be clear: Senate Democrats are keeping the Department of Justice from functioning at full capacity.

But other seats are currently filled by Obama appointees quietly working behind the scenes to sabotage Trump’s efforts by continuing their previous leader’s agenda while Schumer works to hamstring Trump’s presidency. These include deputies, managers, and political appointees who are meant to keep the government running while a new administration comes into power.

A clear example of this is occurring in the Department of Education, where bureaucrats are continuing what the Washington Post called Obama’s “ideological crusade” on for-profit colleges.

During President Obama’s term, his administration forced ITT Technical Institutes out of business after the school helped train American workers for half a century. This left about 40,000 students displaced and about 8,000 employees jobless, according to a September 20, 2016 Washington Post editorial.

And two months before the end of Obama’s term, his education department abruptly stripped authority from the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, which is one of the oldest national accreditors of academic institutions in the country.

The Obama administration took this action without giving the ACICS a standard 12-month grace period to address the Department of Education’s complaints and imposed intentionally unattainable deadlines on private colleges and work training programs accredited through ACICS.

Secretary Betsy DeVos is now leading the Department of Education, but Obama-appointed lawyers in the department are still enforcing these unreachable mandates for career training institutions.

One such deadline requires 690 privately-owned schools to prove they have applications to other accreditors by March 12. Not only is this forcing private schools to leave ACICS before its appeal is adjudicated, but not meeting this deadline will mean these schools will lose the ability to receive federal Title IV funding, which is bureaucrat-speak for federal student aid.

This means more than 600,000 students at 725 schools will have to either quickly find other educational programs and restart their degrees or certificates; pay off their federal loans with their own money; or find a private lender to accept their debt. All of these options are terrible and punish hard-working people. And the last resort is having taxpayers cover the cost of forgiving the now-useless loans.

The Obama administration made a mission out of demonizing private for-profit colleges and universities, but many of these students are single parents or people who were failed by college-focused federal education policies.

Pulling the rug out from under organizations like ACICS is a blatant, misguided effort by Obama administration bureaucrats who are focused on destroying this industry.

Many of these students are working adults who are trying to improve their lives for the sake of their children. Not only will these Obama-led efforts hurt Americans, but without these colleges and career training programs, our ability to fill the jobs President Trump is working to bring to this county will be severely hindered.

Senate Republicans should make every effort to break the Democrat blockade, so President Trump can swiftly fill these positions. And then the president’s cabinet members should take a close look at Obama staffers who have “burrowed in” by moving from appointed positions to career jobs.

The Washington Times reported in November that there were “69 Obama political appointees who moved into career jobs from 2010 to 2015, and 17 of them didn’t receive the required approval from the Office of Personnel Management.”

The bold changes President Trump is bringing to the federal system will require complete loyalty within the ranks of the executive branch. Republicans in the Congress and the President’s cabinet should work doubly hard to ensure the administration is at top working order as soon as possible.

    Most Expensive Baseball Card

Updated: On Monday, February 26, 2007 it was reported that a 1909 Honus Wagner tobacco card, formerly owned by Wayne Gretzky, sold for $2.35 million US to an anonymous Southern California collector. This makes the card the most expensive baseball card ever purchased.

Originally issued as novelties for baseball fans and as a marketing technique by tobacco dealers, baseball cards have grown into a large industry of vintage collectors and resellers and new market dealers. They are available in most toy and big-box chain stores such as Target, across the nation at independent storefronts and through vendors online.

A relatively volatile market, the baseball card industry has prominent pieces that have and likely will always be quite valuable, but has seen instability in the last two decades. In the 1980s, a market of reselling vintage cards developed, and soon became oversaturated with newly issued and reissued cards as card makers and collectors alike sought to cash in on these hot commodities. It became quickly apparent that the majority of cards have little or no value in a resale market, and specially issued rarities were included in sets to entice buyers into purchasing bulk packages in the hopes of finding that gold nugget. While effective at generating sales, many of these specially issued cards lacked a rarity or even a demand that would be necessary to keep artificially inflated prices high for long. Even so, the card collecting industry, which has expanded beyond baseball and even sports in general, remains vibrant.

This may lead one to ask, what is most expensive baseball card in the world? Since the 1980s, the Honus Wagner T206 white-rimmed tobacco baseball card has been regarded as the most-highly sought after baseball card available. Issues in 1 in a run limited to about 60 cards, several are still on the market, and one was purchased on eBay for $1.27 million USD in July 2000 making it quite possibly the world s most expensive baseball card. Wagner prevented his image from being used on tobacco cards produced in later years, hoping not to encourage kids to smoke.

Similarly lauded baseball cards include the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle rookie card, regarded to be worth over $300,000, virtually any card featuring Babe Ruth (his oversized 1914 Baltimore News card the prize of the bunch) or other legendary baseball icons such as Shoeless Joe Jackson.

The Honus Wagner card is considered so valuable that it may be worth a second check through your grandparent s old collection and a trip to your local card shop, even a severely damaged Wagner card would potentially sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Here are the best and worst college degrees based on return-on-investment.

A new Bankrate study that estimates how long it would take to repay student loans according to career choice should help parents and students looking to invest those college dollars wisely.

With Friday’s jobs report showing an uptick in the unemployment rate to 7.6 percent. students and parents need to put extra thought into which majors will offer the best prospects and return on investment after graduation.

Bankrate.com ranked 20 popular careers and related majors according to their median compensation and the amount of time it would take to repay student loans for each.

Jessica Patel, a personal finance analyst at Bankrate.com, said this was the first time the financial website had conducted such a study. Bankrate.com used the most recent data from the national Center for Education Statistics and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“With student loan rates as high as they are now and student loan debt increasingly growing, we wanted parents and children to have a tool for the best jobs for the money,” Patel said.

In July, federal Stafford loan interest rates are expected to double to 6.8 percent. The average amount of debt from the college class of 2013 is $35,200, according to Fidelity.

After studying 20 popular careers, Patel said so-called “stable” careers, such as doctor or lawyer, often failed to offer a higher financial return, because of their higher educational costs.

“You don’t need a graduate degree or don’t need to go to school for as long as you think to have a well-paying job,” she said.

A job in advertising or marketing, which does not require a post-graduate degree, was the career with the least amount of time to repay student debt. Assuming that 10 percent of one’s salary goes toward repaying school loans, a median salary of $107,950, a total higher education cost of $52,596 (tuition, fees, room and board) and a 6 percent student loan interest rate, it would take 5.83 years to repay student debt.

Of the 20 careers, the job with the longest loan repayment time was marriage and family therapist, which requires about two years of graduate school. Assuming a salary of $46,670, it would take about 34.67 years to repay student debt in that field.

Here are 20 popular career choices analyzed by Bankrate.com.

Minimum required years of higher education: 4

    Cost of degree: $52,596

Lehman Center for the Performing Arts – Best Shows in the Bronx #performing #arts #colleges

Our special thanks for the pre Valentine’s Day concert with India and Ismael Miranda.
My wife is a “Die Hard” India fan and I cannot refuse getting tickets for any concert that
she appears at. We have no problem driving from our residence near Kennedy Airport
all the way to the Bronx to see her and other Latin artist that appear on the stage at Lehman
College. You do so much for “Latin Roots” within the City of New York. Thanks and keep
up the good work you do for Lehman College and the Latin Culture citywide.

It was a treat to be back in The Bronx with dear friends and true ambassadors of the borough. Bobby Allende and Marc Quiñones deserve a medal for putting together a show that merits a place in the history books.

Philip Klint Reporter from New York One TV

Thank you so much for all these excellent performers and performances! My husband and I have been enjoying the shows for many years now. We have also shared with my cousin and her husband who come all the way from Virginia to see many of the performances . Lehman Center is convenient to get to, plenty of parking, and always a mature, safe experience. Thank you for your and the staff dedication to Lehman Center and all the surrounding communities/boroughs. Keep up the great work! We will continue spreading the word about the great shows at Lehman Center!
    Sincerely,

    GREAT SHOWS IN THE BRONX
I recently went to Lehman to see Shaolin Warriors, a great show about Shaolin Kung fu. It s a nice theater with decent prices and good seats. They have a lot of different shows there from I ve seen passing by, and some pretty decently big names. Check it out.

    IT IS PERFECT
The little secret about this venue is that there is top entertainment here for out of Manhattan prices. I love the ballet performances and try to get there often. Parking is free.

    GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY
I saw the Tchaikovsky Symphont Orchestra there, the tickets were cheap on Goldstar, but generally very reasonable, always. Show was excellent, parking was easy, venue clean, the tickets and seating well organzed and view good from most everywhere.

    GREAT LOCAL VENUE FOR PERFORMANCE
Terrific prices for a variety of shows. Recently the crowds have become larger and the staff is sometimes unprepared to handle the crowd so it may be slow getting in. All seating is very good. It is possible to get excellent seats (even front row) online by becoming a friend and getting early notice about events.

    WORTH EVERY PENNY
I have attended many shows at Lehman Center, it is well organized, the ushers are friendly and help you to your seat. Overall people are respectful to each other. Bathrooms are clean and I had an awesome time. The music events are worth the money and the length of time is great. I would recommend anyone to attend a show or event here.

    GREATTTTTTTT
I went with my sister and daughter to see Jose Alberto El Canario in concert. I had such a great time. The orchestra seating was very good. The vendors were selling Salsa classics, beer and wine in the lobby. There were snacks also. I will be travelling back to see many concerts.
