Idaho Car Insurance

Idaho drivers enjoy state car insurance rates that are among the nation’s cheapest — if they shop around. But in every ZIP code — nearly all of Idaho’s cities and towns are mapped out below — the lowest-priced insurance company is hundreds of dollars less than the most expensive for the same coverage. That means that even if your state has some of the most lowest rates compared to the rest of the country, you can still save by comparing insurance companies. Enter your ZIP code and gender and choose from six age groups and three coverage levels to see what you can expect to pay and how much you can save.

Idaho Car Insurance Laws

Idaho has very middle-of-the-road liability limits of $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for bodily injury and $15,000 for property damage. If you have a family or own a home, the industry standard for protection is 100/300/50.

Off-roading rules: Off-roading on ATVs, UTVs, motorbikes and other specialty off-roading vehicles is popular in Idaho. The requirements vary depending on where you are riding. Registration of your vehicle is almost always needed, but insurance may not be unless you are also driving on state or city roads with your vehicle.

Electronic proof of insurance is accepted: While it’s wise to still carry your paper insurance card in the vehicle or in your wallet, if you have proof of auto insurance on your smart phone or tablet, law enforcement and other state officials will accept it.

Violations, points and length on record: Idaho’s Transportation Department records moving violations that occur in Idaho, other states and Canada. Points stay on your record for three years after the conviction dates.

Discounts for ages 55+: Idaho auto insurance providers are required to offer older drivers (55+ years of age) a discount for completing an approved accident-prevention class. The discount is good for three years and is renewable.

Uninsured motorist penalties for Idaho: You may be fined $206, your license may be suspended and you may be required to file an SR-22 form. If you were driving without privileges (had your license suspended, revoked, etc. due to your previous citation), this offense is much more serious and carries a mandatory minimum of two days in jail, and up to six months. It also carries up to a $1000 fine, and it carries an additional license suspension of six months.

Electronic proof of insurance: Idaho is one of 31 states that allow drivers to show proof of insurance during a traffic stop on a smartphone.

Testing your way to a degree is not only faster than taking the conventional route

Testing your way to a degree is not only faster than taking the conventional route. It’s much, much cheaper

Think you know as much as a college graduate but never got a degree? More colleges and universities are giving you the chance to prove it — and to get that degree in the process.

A small but growing number of schools are letting students skip straight to final exams and earn academic credit in subjects they know well, often after years working in related fields. Some students can complete their bachelor’s degrees this way in a matter of months, usually online, and save thousands of dollars in the process by avoiding churning through superfluous courses covering material they already know.

Graduates of Western Governors University. (Photo: Western Governors University)

Take Sara Jones, a 32-year-old court clerk in Tucson, Arizona, who went into the working world straight out of high school before finally deciding to go back to college to improve her chances of getting a promotion. “I heard from a supervisor that it would be advantageous, if I wanted to move up at all, to get a [bachelor’s] degree,” said Jones, who had an associate’s degree before starting at a Northern Arizona University program that let her cash in her experience for credit.

As in similar so-called competency-based programs, Northern Arizona lets students take exams to prove how much they know — enough, in Jones’s case, that she’s only nine months into the program and expects to finish by early next year.

Testing your way to a degree is not only faster than taking the conventional route. It’s much, much cheaper. Students pay a flat amount for a fixed period of time. At Northern Arizona, a six-month subscription costs $2,500, including all books and materials. That means Jones would pay a maximum of $7,500 to finish her degree, thousands less than most universities charge for traditional programs. “I’m not 100 percent sure I ll use the degree, so it s hard to talk myself into $40,000 to $60,000 in debt,” she said.

The idea was pioneered by Western Governors University. a nonprofit, online school founded in 1997 by 19 U.S. governors. The university offers six-month subscriptions for $3,000, a price that has not increased since 2008, said WGU President Robert Mendenhall.

The average WGU student is 37, Mendenhall said, and a handful have finished a bachelor’s degree in a single six-month period. Competency-based programs are perfect for older students who are daunted by the prospect of attending college for four or more years in order to advance their careers, he said.

“Frankly their jobs are either disappearing or they re stuck in a job where they have no chance of advancement,” Mendenhall said. “We free students up to learn what they don t know. It makes a lot of sense for people who have been in the work force and gained competencies.”

Related stories

A flurry of activity has given older students more options for testing their way to degrees. Some have caveats, though.

WGU, for example, only accepts students who agree to attend full time. Southern New Hampshire University offers its competency-based bachelor’s programs only to employees of companies that have partnered with the school. It has about 55 partners so far, including McDonald’s, the Gap, and Panera, said Kristine Clerkin, executive director of the university’s College for America program, which costs $2,500 per year.

The trend toward competency-based degrees is a nod to economic realities, said Cathy Sandeen, vice president of educational attainment and innovation at the American Council on Education. Only a quarter of U.S. students, she said, follow the traditional college path: entering as freshmen immediately following high school and attending full-time until graduation.

A Georgetown University report estimated that 65 percent of U.S. jobs will require some college education by 2020 – and that the country will fall 5 million workers short of that.

“Right now you can see there is a gap,” Sandeen said. “We need to educate more people quickly. We have a large percentage of students in this country who are nontraditional students. Those students have needs.”

A range of universities offer competency-based programs. They include traditional nonprofit schools such as Northern Arizona, the University of Wisconsin. and the University of Maryland. and for-profit universities such as Capella and Argosy .

Some schools are still figuring out how to match the programs with guidelines that allow students to use federal loans and scholarships. Regulators have been reluctant to give federal financial aid for such unconventional programs, though they’re starting to bend; students at Capella and Southern New Hampshire can now get government aid. For various complicated but different reasons, so can those at Northern Arizona.

Students should carefully look into programs that interest them, experts said, including whether the programs have been approved by regional accreditors and have knowledgeable professors on hand to offer help — and, if needed, whether federal financial aid is available.

A few calls to human resources departments will determine whether the online degree will be accepted by employers, said Sylvia Manning, president of the Higher Learning Commission, a Chicago-based accreditor.

“You re going to want to know whether this degree is going to be recognized by the employers that interest you,” Manning said.

A few places you can test your way to a degree:

  • Northern Arizona University ($2,500 for six months)
  • Southern New Hampshire University ($2,500 per year; available only through certain employers)
  • Western Governors University ($3,000 for six months)
  • University of Wisconsin ($2,250 for three months; other tuition options available)
  • Capella University (contact school for tuition information)

Comparative Psychology Degree Program Overviews

Essential Information

Most bachelor’s programs in psychology touch on comparative psychology, but it’s rarely the focus of the program. Comparative psychology is sometimes offered as a concentration in psychology master’s programs. Similarly, aspiring psychologists, research scientists and university professors can focus on comparative psychology at the doctoral level through dissertation research and traditional coursework.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required for admittance into the bachelor’s program. A bachelor’s degree including work in statistics and experimental psychology will be needed to begin the master’s program. Admission to the doctoral program will require an appropriate master’s degree. This program typically requires 45-60 hours of upper-tier coursework in addition to previously completed master’s degree credits in the field.

Bachelor of Science in Psychology

A comprehensive baccalaureate program in psychology introduces students to concepts in comparative psychology and animal science. These programs usually focus on core principles in psychology, and students must often complete a series of electives that provide an overview of how psychological theories are used in the study of human and animal behavior. Classes emphasize fundamental psychological theories and their relationship to human behaviors and that of other species. The following are some possible subjects covered in the curriculum:

  • Introduction to psychology
  • Evolutionary psychology
  • Biopsychology
  • Statistics
  • Psychological research design

Master of Science in Psychology with Comparative Psychology Concentration

Master’s degree candidates observe the behavior of human and animals in the field and laboratory. They research the mechanisms, social development, and evolution of humans and non-humans. Areas of focus may include the following:

  • Statistical analysis
  • Cognitive processes and experience
  • Ontogeny

Ph.D. in Psychology with Comparative Psychology Concentration

Doctoral degree programs generally provide the highest level of study and research in the field of comparative psychology and animal science. Classes consist of advanced studies in specialized research in areas including development and testing of hypotheses, observing animal or human participants and analyzing data. Course subjects include the following:

  • Animal cognition
  • Teaching methods
  • Advanced studies in animal behavior
  • Human operant behavior
  • Survey of physiological and comparative psychology

Employment and Salary Information

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that employment of all kinds of psychologists was expected to grow by 19%, from 2014-2024. Employment opportunities were expected to be the brightest for candidates with a doctoral degree in a specialty field within psychology. Although the BLS does not provide salary information for comparative psychologists in particular, it did indicate that psychologists working outside of clinical, counseling, school, and industrial-organizational fields earned an average salary of $93,050 per year in May 2015.

Additionally, job applicants holding a Ph.D. are generally qualified to seek advanced positions in teaching and research. In May 2015, the BLS reported that psychology teachers instructing in postsecondary educational institutions earned an average of $79,370 per year. The employment of all kinds of postsecondary teachers, including psychology professors, was projected to grow about 13% between 2014 and 2024 by the BLS; however, many of the job openings will be for part-time or non-tenured positions, according to the BLS.

Comparative psychologists study the differences between human and animal behavior. While comparative psychology may not be available as a specific major, it is available as a concentration at a bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree level.

Our system assumes stocks establish trends over time. At some point, a given security’s trend may reverse. The TradeRadar software looks for that reversal point. If the reversal appears strong enough, it generates an actionable TradeRadar Reversal Alert BUY signal or SELL signal which we present here on the Reversal Alert pages.

    Our other signals

Using a host of standard technical analysis processes we combine indicators in unique ways to create our lists of Swing Signals, Trend Busters, Trend Leaders and Bollinger Band Breakouts. Our Gap Analysis lists are straightforward enough and we use our special cash flow analysis formula to generate our list of Cash Flow Kings.

Our alerts are perfect for adding to your stock market watch list of hot stocks. Use our signals for market timing, trend trading or swing trading. If you are a self-directed investor looking for stock market data, Alert HQ can be an extra stock screener and a source of new ideas for your own stock trading system or trading strategy.

    Comparing Load Balancing Algorithms #round-robin #load #balancing

    Overview

So your load balancer supports multiple load balancing algorithms but you don’t know which one to pick? You will in a minute.

In this post, we compare 5 common load balancing algorithms, highlighting their main characteristics and pointing out where they’re best and not well suited for. Let’s begin.

Prefer to watch a video version of this post instead? Click or tap to play.

    Round Robin

Round Robin is undoubtedly the most widely used algorithm. It’s easy to implement and easy to understand. Here’s how it works. Let’s say you have 2 servers waiting for requests behind your load balancer. Once the first request arrives, the load balancer will forward that request to the 1st server. When the 2nd request arrives (presumably from a different client), that request will then be forwarded to the 2nd server.

Because the 2nd server is the last in this cluster, the next request (i.e. the 3rd) will be forwarded back to the 1st server, the 4th request back to the 2nd server, and so on, in a cyclical fashion.

As you can see, the method is very simple. However, it won’t do well in certain scenarios.

For example, what if Server 1 had more CPU, RAM, and other specs compared to Server 2? Server 1 should be able to handle a higher workload than Server 2, right?

Unfortunately, a load balancer running on a round robin algorithm won’t be able to treat the two servers accordingly. In spite of the two servers’ disproportionate capacities, the load balancer will still distribute requests equally. As a result, Server 2 can get overloaded faster and probably even go down. You wouldn’t want that to happen.

The Round Robin algorithm is best for clusters consisting of servers with identical specs. For other situations, you might want to look at other algorithms, like the ones below.

    Weighted Round Robin

For the 2nd scenario mentioned above, i.e. Server 1 having higher specs than Server 2, you might prefer an algorithm that assigns more requests to the server with a higher capability of handling greater load. One such algorithm is the Weighted Round Robin.

The Weighted Round Robin is similar to the Round Robin in a sense that the manner by which requests are assigned to the nodes is still cyclical, albeit with a twist. The node with the higher specs will be apportioned a greater number of requests.

But how would the load balancer know which node has a higher capacity? Simple. You tell it beforehand. Basically, when you set up the load balancer, you assign “weights” to each node. The node with the higher specs should of course be given the higher weight.

You usually specify weights in proportion to actual capacities. So, for example, if Server 1’s capacity is 5x more than Server 2’s, then you can assign it a weight of 5 and Server 2 a weight of 1.

So when clients start coming in, the first 5 will be assigned to node 1 and the 6th to node 2. If more clients come in, the same sequence will be followed. That is, the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10, and 11th will all go to Server1, and the 12th to Server 2, and so on.

Capacity isn’t the only basis for choosing the Weighted Round Robin (WRR) algorithm. Sometimes, you’ll want to use it if say you want one server to get a substantially lower number of connections than an equally capable server for the reason that the first server is running business-critical applications and you don’t want it to be easily overloaded.

    Least Connections

There can be instances when, even if two servers in a cluster have exactly the same specs (see first example/figure), one server can still get overloaded considerably faster than the other. One possible reason would be because clients connecting to Server 2 stay connected much longer than those connecting to Server 1.

This can cause the total current connections in Server 2 to pile up, while those of Server 1 (with clients connecting and disconnecting over shorter times) would virtually remain the same. As a result, Server 2’s resources can run out faster. This is depicted below, wherein clients 1 and 3 already disconnect, while 2, 4, 5, and 6 are still connected.

In situations like this, the Least Connections algorithm would be a better fit. This algorithm takes into consideration the number of current connections each server has. When a client attempts to connect, the load balancer will try to determine which server has the least number of connections and then assign the new connection to that server.

So if say (continuing our last example), client 6 attempts to connect after 1 and 3 have already disconnected but 2 and 4 are still connected, the load balancer will assign client 6 to Server 1 instead of Server 2.

    Weighted Least Connections

The Weighted Least Connections algorithm does to Least Connections what Weighted Round Robin does to Round Robin. That is, it introduces a “weight” component based on the respective capacities of each server. Just like in the Weighted Round Robin, you’ll have to specify each server’s “weight” beforehand.

A load balancer that implements the Weighted Least Connections algorithm now takes into consideration two things: the weights/capacities of each server AND the current number of clients currently connected to each server.

    Random

As its name implies, this algorithm matches clients and servers by random, i.e. using an underlying random number generator. In cases wherein the load balancer receives a large number of requests, a Random algorithm will be able to distribute the requests evenly to the nodes. So like Round Robin, the Random algorithm is sufficient for clusters consisting of nodes with similar configurations (CPU, RAM, etc).
